Background & Context
UST is a national NGO, founded by Hamidul Huq (PhD, WUR) in June 1986 with a vision of People’s Development is in People’s Hand and Goal of Women Empowerment and Shabolombee Gram (Self-help Village).
Since its journey began in June 1986, the UST has been working with the rural disadvantaged women to unfold their potentials and enhance their capacity of mobilizing available local and external resources for Sustainable Livelihoods of the rural disadvantaged people. UST believes, it is possible to bring changes in the socio-economic conditions of the disadvantaged poor rural women through their empowerment. This empowerment process is essential in augmenting capacity of the disadvantaged people, particularly the women, to management the livelihoods assets of all forms, and establishing control over the resources. Respecting the importance of involvement of the women in the processes of social change through enhancing socio-economic development, the UST has been working with the rural disadvantaged women directly. This strategic approach contributed efficiently and effectively in increasing sustained capacity of the women towards achieving their social and financial security and sustainable livelihoods.
